BloodPressureDB Test

Here you will find various tests from renowned test magazines on blood pressure monitors.

Comparison ETM Testmagazin 02/2025

The ETM Testmagazin compared a total of 11 blood pressure monitors in 3 groups in the February 2025 issue. The classification was made into upper arm monitors with and without memory recall, as well as wrist devices. We find the classification into devices with and without memory recall somewhat strange. Ultimately, these are devices that can only be used properly in conjunction with the manufacturer's app. There were only 2 wrist devices in the test. Thanks to the division, devices from Beurer clearly dominate the test. After all, more than a third of all devices come from this manufacturer.

Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors with Memory Recall
  1. 1st place: BM 53 by Beurer (very good, 94.2%)
  2. 2nd place: BM 27 by Beurer (very good, 92.1%)
  3. 3rd place: BM 28 by Beurer (very good, 92.0%)
  4. 4th place: X2 Smart+ by Omron (good, 91.5%)
  5. 5th place: BU 512 by medisana (good, 87.2%)
Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors without Memory Recall
  1. 1st place: BPM Core by Withings (very good, 93.4%)
  2. 2nd place: Index BPM by Garmin (very good, 92.3%)
  3. 3rd place: BPM Connect by Withings (good, 91.3%)
  4. Blood pressure monitor for the upper arm with smart app by ETA (good, 91.2%)
Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors
  1. 1st place: BC 87 by Beurer (very good, 95.0%)
  2. 2nd place: SBC 22 by Sanitas (very good, 92.0%)

Comparison of IMTEST June 2024

  1. Omron RS7 Intelli IT
    Rating: good (grade 2.4)
Pro: Shows the highest measured accuracy in the test.
Con: The manufacturer's specification for high blood pressure is not WHO-compliant.
  2. Withings BPM Connect
    Rating: good (grade 2.5)
Pro: Stores unlimited measurements for up to 8 users (via app).
Con: The central multifunction button is not labeled.
  3. Braun Exact Fit 5 BP6200
    Rating: good (grade 2.5)
Pro: Two cuffs in different sizes are included.
Con: High inaccuracies were observed in pulse measurements.
  4. Medisana BU510
    Rating: satisfactory (grade 2.6)
Pro: Large LCD segment display with good, high-contrast font size.
Con: The pumping process is quite loud and was perceived as disturbing.
  5. Sanitas SBC 22
    Rating: satisfactory (grade 2.9)
Pro: The most affordable device in the test for under 25 euros (via Amazon)
Con: Values in a measurement series varied significantly.
Note: IMTEST commissioned an independent testing laboratory. However, each device was tested with only 3 measurements on 3 subjects. That's not much. Overall, we find the selection of devices and the information in the test not very helpful. The complete test is linked in our sources.

Comparison of Stiftung Warentest November 2023

In the November 2023 issue, Stiftung Warentest tested 10 measuring devices. The focus was on measurement accuracy, where only the two Omron devices performed well.

Comparison of Stiftung Warentest November 2018

In the November 2018 issue, Stiftung Warentest tested blood pressure monitors again. None of the 14 tested devices could beat the test winners from 2016. Especially the measurement accuracy of the tested devices was often unconvincing. The best rating for this point was "satisfactory". The best overall rating was only narrowly "good" once, and eight devices received "satisfactory". Five times it was only "sufficient". The handling of the devices was consistently rated positively - all "test subjects" received the top rating of "very good".

Smart measuring devices that can transmit the measured values directly to an app via Bluetooth were not considered in this test.

Comparison of Stiftung Warentest May 2016

In the May 2016 issue of the magazine "test", Stiftung Warentest published a test report on 15 blood pressure monitors. Stiftung Warentest rated only three devices as "good", and two devices received only the rating "sufficient" for measurement accuracy.

Beurer BM 85
Rating: sufficient (Grade 3.7)
Interesting: The Beurer BM 85 performed quite poorly. In the ETM Testmagazin, it was still the test winner. Stiftung Warentest also evaluated the app in its test and thus significantly downgraded the device. Also because data is allegedly sent unencrypted.
Both Beurer and WEPA (Aponorm) criticized the testing methods. A re-evaluation took place.

Comparison of Stiftung Warentest December 2010

In the December 2010 issue of the magazine "test", Stiftung Warentest published a test report on blood pressure monitors. Although none of the devices achieved the rating "very good" in the comparison, the testers were overall quite satisfied. Especially the quality of the measurement results is consistently good. Accordingly, the title of the report from Stiftung Warentest is also "Hardly any false readings".

In addition to measurement accuracy, operation and instructions were also evaluated. Operation depends, among other things, on large buttons and an easily readable display. Whether it should be a device for the wrist or an upper arm blood pressure monitor does not matter for measurement accuracy. Upper arm devices bypass anatomical problems (such as thick bones or inelastic veins). However, wrist devices are significantly more convenient. The test showed no advantage for upper arm devices. The test winner is a particularly handy device for the wrist.
