BILD newspaper test 05/2025
Product tests are new in the BILD newspaper. In early May 2025 they published their test of blood pressure monitors. Five upper-arm and wrist devices with inflatable cuffs were tested. Here are the results of that test:1st place: Omron M500 Intelli IT Test score 2.2 (good)
2nd place: Braun ExactFit 5 Connect BUA6350EU Test score 2.3 (good)
3rd place: Withings BPM Connect Test score 2.9 (satisfactory)
4th place: Omron RS7 Intelli IT Test score 3.1 (satisfactory)
5th place: Beurer BC 54 Bluetooth Test score 3.9 (sufficient)
Smartwatches with blood pressure functions were also tested in a second test. First, the then-current Samsung models Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2 were tested. These calculate blood pressure from the pulse wave measured by optical sensors. Regular calibration with a conventional blood pressure monitor is necessary. This method of measuring blood pressure was also continued in Samsung's follow-up models.
2nd place: Braun ExactFit 5 Connect BUA6350EU Test score 2.3 (good)
3rd place: Withings BPM Connect Test score 2.9 (satisfactory)
4th place: Omron RS7 Intelli IT Test score 3.1 (satisfactory)
5th place: Beurer BC 54 Bluetooth Test score 3.9 (sufficient)

Second, the Huawei Watch D2 with a built-in air cushion in the strap was tested. The measurement is done using the conventional principle of inflating and deflating the air in the built-in cuff.
The result for both types of smartwatches was disappointing: the technology isn't mature enough yet.

Comparison ETM Testmagazin 02/2025
The ETM Testmagazin compared a total of 11 blood pressure monitors in the February 2025 issue, divided into three groups. The split was between upper-arm monitors with and without data retrieval, and wrist monitors. We find the division into devices with and without data retrieval a bit odd ultimately this refers to devices that can only be used properly together with the manufacturer's app. Only two wrist devices were tested. Because of this split, Beurer devices clearly dominate the test: more than a third of all devices came from this manufacturer.
Upper-arm blood pressure monitors with data retrieval
- 1st: BM 53 from Beurer (very good, 94.2%)
- 2nd: BM 27 from Beurer (very good, 92.1%)
- 3rd: BM 28 from Beurer (very good, 92.0%)
- 4th: X2 Smart+ from Omron (good, 91.5%)
- 5th: BU 512 from Medisana (good, 87.2%)
Upper-arm blood pressure monitors without data retrieval
- 1st: BPM Core from Withings (very good, 93.4%)
- 2nd: Index BPM from Garmin (very good, 92.3%)
- 3rd: BPM Connect from Withings (good, 91.3%)
- Upper-arm blood pressure monitor with smart app from ETA (good, 91.2%)
Wrist blood pressure monitors
- 1st: BC 87 from Beurer (very good, 95.0%)
- 2nd: SBC 22 from Sanitas (very good, 92.0%)
IMTEST comparison June 2024
- Omron RS7 Intelli IT
Rating: good (score 2.4)
Pro: Shows the highest measured accuracy in the test.
Con: The manufacturer's definition of high blood pressure is not WHO-compliant. - Withings BMP Connect
Rating: good (score 2.5)
Pro: Stores unlimited readings for up to 8 users (via app).
Con: The central multifunction button is not labeled. - Braun Exact Fit 5 BP6200
Rating: good (score 2.5)
Pro: Two cuffs in different sizes are included.
Con: Quite high inaccuracies were observed in pulse measurements. - Medisana BU510
Rating: satisfactory (score 2.6)
Pro: Large LCD segment display with good, high-contrast font size.
Con: The pump operation is quite loud and was found disturbing. - Sanitas SBC 22
Rating: satisfactory (score 2.9)
Pro: By far the cheapest device in the test for under 25 (via Amazon).
Con: Some readings in a series differed noticeably from each other.
Note: IMTEST commissioned an independent test laboratory. However, each device was tested with only 3 measurements on 3 subjects. That's not much. Overall we find the selection of devices and the information in the test not very helpful. The full test is linked in our sources.

Stiftung Warentest comparison November 2018
In the November 2018 issue, Stiftung Warentest once again tested blood pressure monitors. Of the 14 devices tested, none were able to beat the 2016 winners. In many cases the measurement accuracy of the tested devices was not convincing. The best rating for this criterion was "satisfactory". The overall rating of "good" was only given once, and eight devices scored "satisfactory". Five devices were only "sufficient". Handling of the devices was consistently rated positively here all tested devices received the top rating "very good".
Smart devices that can send measured values directly to an app via Bluetooth were not considered in this test.

Interesting: The Beurer BM 85 fared quite poorly. In the ETM Testmagazin it had still been the test winner.
Stiftung Warentest also evaluated the app and severely downgraded the device, partly because data were reportedly sent unencrypted.
Both the company Beurer and the company WEPA (Aponorm) criticized the test methods. A re-evaluation took place.

Stiftung Warentest comparison December 2010
In the December 2010 issue of the magazine "test", Stiftung Warentest published a report on blood pressure monitors. Although none of the devices in the comparison received the rating "very good", the testers were overall quite satisfied. Above all, the quality of the measurement results was consistently good. Accordingly, the title of the Stiftung Warentest report is "Hardly Any False Readings".
In addition to measurement accuracy, operation and instructions were also evaluated. Operation depends partly on large buttons and an easy-to-read display. Whether a device is for the wrist or the upper arm makes no difference for measurement accuracy. Upper-arm devices avoid anatomical problems (for example with thick bones or non-elastic arteries). Wrist devices, on the other hand, are clearly more handy. The test showed no advantage for upper-arm devices. The test winner is a particularly handy wrist device.
