When and how do I measure correctly?
According to the guidelines of the German Hypertension League and the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) as well as the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), you should measure your blood pressure in the morning and evening.
If you do not monitor your blood pressure values daily, you should check and record your blood pressure at least 3, preferably 6-7 days before a doctor's visit according to the mentioned scheme.
We recommend measuring your blood pressure directly after waking up, sitting on the edge of the bed for 5 minutes, and then measuring your blood pressure. In the evening, please measure immediately before going to bed. Again, sit on the edge of the bed for 5 minutes and then measure your blood pressure before lying down. Perform two measurements with a gap of 1-2 minutes and please record both measurements.

If you urgently need to go to the toilet after waking up, please respond to this urge first. After that, sit on the edge of the bed again, rest for 5 minutes, and then start measuring your blood pressure.
Note for shift workers: The specific times do not matter. Just measure before going to sleep and after getting up.

How to measure correctly:
The measurement should be taken at heart level. This is especially important when measuring while sitting with a wrist device. The cuff on upper arm devices is usually automatically at the correct height. Support your arm with a cushion for both types of devices. For measurements with an upper arm cuff, the arm should be exposed. If you roll up your sleeve, make sure it does not constrict the arm and does not impair blood flow. Some measuring devices allow measurement with thinner clothing; please pay attention to the instructions of your measuring device.
